14-year-old students arrested for faking kidnapping

KUALA TERENGGANU: Two 14 year-old students have been arrested for faking a kidnapping and demanding RM8,000 ransom on Tuesday.
State CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said Saturday the kidnap was planned by one of the students who was angry with his father for forbidding him to ride a motorcycle.
"The father lodged a police report after the son who left Kampung Machang Lada, Marang on a bicycle that morning, failed to return by night fall."
Manoharan said the next day, the father received a phone call from an unidentified man demanding RM8,000 ransom for his son's release.
The man asked the blacksmith father to leave the ransom money behind a convenient store in Kuala Ibai the next day.
The father did as ordered but the kidnapper was nowhere to be seen. The father then went looking and found his son together with a friend in Kuala Ibai.
Police investigation revealed that the son faked his own kidnapping with the friend to buy a new motorcycle.
The students were remanded until Tuesday for further investigation under Section 385 of Penal Code for committing extortion. - Bernama
